Ideal #OOTD: Green Skinny Jeans and Combat Boots

Tis the season for big sweaters and kick ass boots. While I am definitely not a fan of the snow, I do like the cozy looks of fall and winter fashion. Yesterday I tossed together my favourite skinny jeans with my favourite boots and topped it off with a roomy cardigan.

I went for that casual semi-tucked look with my top and added a long necklace and wooden earrings. The whole look came together as a bit of a comfy by the fire look…with combat boots

Ideal #OOTD: Cute Plaid Shirt & Combat Boots

Last week I was totally feeling that rugged chic vibe that seems to be in all the stores this season. I had picked up a new plaid top in bright colours and knew it would go great with a cute cardigan, skinny jeans and of course, my combat boots…which I now wear with EVERYTHING.

This is one of those outfits where the staging of the clothes can make a big difference in the look. For instance, leaving this shirt untucked would give it a more casual feel. Tucking in the front & adding a belt makes the outfit instantly look more edgy and trendy. Pairing it with the combat boots and a leather jacket completes even further.

Ideal #OOTD: Cozy elbow patch sweater

Aaaannnnnd, I’m back!

It has been about eight months since my last fashion post. Having a baby can crimp your style a wee bit. I just didn’t think anyone would care which yoga pants I was wearing, or if I even bothered to get out of last nights PJs…

Next month I head back to work. My hubby is taking the last four months with Colton. To gear up for the transition, I started going back into the office for a half day once a week. There are weeks where I don’t feel like going simply because I miss my little man. However, the idea of putting on real clothes and buying a Starbucks latte is powerful motivation.

For Mother’s Day this year Adam bought me a pair of Steve Madden combat boots that I’d had my eye of n for very long time. I’ve only had a few opportunities to wear them, so this fall and winter I am very excited to build new outfits around them.

The nerdy writer in me is instantly in love with anything Oxford like. So when I spotted this cream-colored cableknit sweater with elbow patches, I knew I had to have it. Paired with black leggings and my combat boots, this outfit is the perfect blend of preppy badass.

Spring Fashion with Sears Canada! #SearsMom

I don’t know if I can fully express just how excited I am for spring fashion this year. Like many Canadians, I am done with this long hard winter we have had and very much looking forward to the warmer weather.

On top of that, we’ve just welcomed the birth of our little boy…meaning I now get to wear the other 95% of my wardrobe again and I have the whole spring and summer off! I have my eye on a few items from the Sears spring line to help get me back into my regular style.

The trendy colours of the 2014 spring season seems to be very similar to the main colours of last year. This is fantastic for two reasons. First off, I LOVE these colours. Secondly, I already have many components in my closet. A few key pieces from Sears will really help to give it a fresh touch.

When looking at putting together outfits, I have a few things to keep in mind. I will now need to keep up with one preschooler, while handling a newborn. Naturally I will be looking for clothes that are comfortable and stylish. Since I am the food source for our little guy, I also need to think about access to the “girls” at all times

I have a ton of coral and turquoise accessories in my closet. This has been my favourite colour combination for a while now. These adorable coral cargo bermudas look comfortable and functional and this printed top brings in all the right colours in a fun way. I love the trend of paring a dark base with pops of a bright spring colour. This black and yellow look screams spring. Of course, with accessibility in mind, I’ve picked out a great nursing cami and button up colour block top. I also loved these fitted denim capris.

Ideal #OOTD: Pregnant Polka Dots!

Sadly, it has been MONTHS since I posted an Ideal #OOTD post. Honestly, even a fashion obsession mama like myself can get very bored of talking about a 20 piece wardrobe…even if some of my maternity pieces are adorable. Our little man is due to arrive in only a couple weeks, so I figured I should get in one more of these before that happens!

Lord knows I will be living in yoga pants for the next few months, with my main accessory being baby drool.

Tonight I am going out for dinner with the girls, which motivated me to get a little more dressed up than I have the last few weeks. I even got back into my maternity skinny jeans, which have been getting a bit snug towards the end here.

Ideal #OOTD: Maternity office wear & polka dots

For the most part with this pregnancy, I can be pretty relaxed and casual. While I still like to be fashionable and look good, the majority of people in our office wear jeans and an overall casual business style. This works well for being comfortable in maternity wear.

My heart honestly goes out to those in the more stricter professions that mandate purchasing the super expensive (and I’m guessing less comfortable) three piece maternity suits…

However, there are days when I need to step up my game in the business wear department. Days when I have face-to-face client meetings. I had one of those days last week.

Now, I am going to state now that nothing I wore in this outfit was maternity. It all just happened to be comfortable and fit well. These pants in particular are ones I bought when I was pregnant with Lilly. They are just $20 stretch, pull-on dress pants from Suzy Shier and they work amazingly as maternity pants. The miracle? They keep their shape when you’re not pregnant. I had these in with my regular pants and not my maternity clothes, so I nearly forgot about them. So glad I remembered they are an option. I also have them in electric blue. Love.

I also just noticed they now offer them in a skinny faux leather…I will be making a trip to my dear Suzy very, very soon…

Ideal #OOTD: Tunic blouse, leggings & leather.

Earlier this week, we had some very high profile people visiting our office. As a result, I had to sacrifice my usual attire as of late – yoga pants, t-shirt and hoodie – for some “grown-up” clothes

Since most of my nicer jeans and dress pants are not the most comfortable right now and I am not quite filling out my maternity stuff just yet (I give it a week at most!), I opted for leggings and a tunic length white button up blouse.

I finished off the look with some nice jewelry, a scarf and my hair pulled back. With a pair of tall black boots, I think I accomplished a chic and professional look. Not bad for 12 weeks pregnant and feeling kinda like crap!

Ideal #OOTD: Oversized plaid flannel with leggings.

Well known fact about me – I have very crappy circulation. As the weather gets colder, I bundle up as if I live in the alps. And this week we had some chillier days.

I recently spotted this super cute oversized plaid blouse at H&M. I have a Great Canadian themed party coming up and thought it would be perfect. Best part? It’s flannel! Yeah for warmth!

Naturally, as with my recent butterfly print tank, I bought this top a size up so that it will fit over the growing baby belly. As one of my coworkers pointed out, I will be able to wear this ultra comfy top even with a huge belly if I just wear it open over layers.

Honestly, this is very quickly going to become my new favourite top. The next time you are in H&M, I dare you to just walk over and feel this shirt. You won’t leave the store without it

Ideal #OOTD: Loose top for early maternity.

Sadly this is my first fashion post in well over a week. If you read my HUGE baby news earlier this week, you now know why. The first stages of pregnancy can definitely leave one feeling less than stylish However, every know and then I have a day where I wake up feeling more motivated. Tuesday was one of those days. Yeah!

I had treated myself to a mini shopping spree at Bootlegger for our anniversary on Monday. I made it my mission to find a few looser fitting tops in darker colours for the fall. I actually went as far as to buy them each one size larger than normal, so that they will fit me for at least a while with this growing bump.

This was a hidden trick of mine throughout my last pregnancy as well – find regular clothes that can double as maternity. At least for a bit.

For anyone wondering how I squeezed into my skinny jeans (rare occasion lately), let me introduce you to the amazing Belly Belt. It has tons of settings to allow you to comfortably wear your own jeans for much longer. LOVE. IT.
