I created my first Portable North Pole video back in 2009! I was pregnant with Lilly and excited about all the future Christmas’ I would experience as a Mama. When 2010 rolled around, we created our first video for our little Lilly! She was 4 months old and it was certainly more for us than her, but the magic had officially begun in our household. We have never missed a year since and can honestly say it has always brought tears to our eyes as well. Magic truly is the word to describe the look on her face and the permanent smile lingering after.

This year will be the first year our son Cole is old enough to understand some of the Christmas magic. Santa will start with his signature, “Well hello there Colton!” I am so excited to show Cole his video because I know he will stare wide-eyed and mumble a toddler style “hiii” and wave back. I can’t wait to see the look on his face when Santa shows him the workshop and the reindeer.

As parents, we have never had to question whether or not our little girl has a great sense of imagination. There’s nothing she loves more than dressing up and transporting herself to some sort of fantasy world, with a storyline that is all her own creation. So when Disney Junior said they wanted to send her a gift of a Sofia The First costume, I knew it would go over very well in our house.

I considered shooting an unboxing video, but then pictured in my mind how that might play out with my 5 year old and thought the better of it Maybe next time.

As expected, Lily dove right into that box as if there was an actual princess in there. Clearly there was.

Lily has never quite been the typical girly girl. Sure, she loves princesses, but very much on her own terms. For instance, a couple years ago for Halloween, when she asked me to dress up as a princess because she wanted to be the fearsome dragon who captured me.

She has always marched to the beat of her own drum and played in a way that is uniquely her.

That fact is one of the reasons that I have always loved Disney Junior’s Sofia The First. It is such a great story in the sense that it encourages every little girl to dream big. It’s relatable because it tells the story of an average little girl becoming a princess. Lilly loves it for all the same reasons. Plus Sofia wears purple, her absolutely favourite colour.

Disney Junior Channel Returns to Canada!

Did you know that the Disney Junior Channel returned as of December 1? Believe me, we very much new in my house. Lilly starting seeing the commercials announcing the return a few months ago and has not let us forget it.There are a number of shows and characters she adores in the Disney Junior family.

…and I will admit that the 90s kid in me is more than a little excited for the new Lion King based series, The Lion Guard!

Now that we have been using them for a few weeks, I can confidently say that these have to be my favourite of all the Huggies diapers. First off, they are super cute. With bright polka dots and Micky and Friends designs, these very well might be the most fun looking and adorable diaper we have ever used.

So cute.

Secondly, the ultra-soft yet absorbent liner seems to be holding up to its reputation. We haven’t had a single leak since we have switched and Cole’s little baby bottom has been dry and free from any rashes, even after a long car ride. This is a major benefit for us, since this little man LOVES his water and is a bit of a heavy wetter by nature. It is great to have that confidence when we are travelling or out for a few hours.

So what is my absolute favourite feature of Huggies Little Movers Plus? I would have to say that it is definitely the double grip strips in the waistband. Cole is a big boy in terms of height, but he is still a little but tiny around the waist. I love that the double grip strips allow these diapers to have a snug, but very flexible fit that will move with him and stay in place. By holding the waistband together in two spots on each side, I also know that these diapers are more likely to stay in place, even when Cole is trying to break free and go streaking…his newest favourite way to get on the move…

Up until now, we have used Huggies Little Snugglers and Little Snugglers Post. I have always loved that variety for how soft the diapers feel and how cozy and snug they fit my little ones. I have always trusted them to provide excellent absorbency with incredible softness.

While we really haven’t had any leaks with our diapers until now, the fit isn’t quite holding up to Cole anymore. With running, climbing, jumping, bending, more climbing, I found I was often finding his diapers bunching up around his legs. It left him more uncomfortable and therefore, needing to be changed more often.

Always. Into. Everything.

I wanted to switch to a diaper that would keep up with him and move the way he moves. I knew that Huggies Little Movers Plus would be the best choice. These diapers are made from Huggies most absorbent diaper (other than Huggies Overnights, which we also swear by) and still offer an ultra soft, dry to the touch liner. They are also made with a soft, breathable outer cover, making them great for preventing diaper rashes. The feature I really love is the Double Grip Strips, which hold the stretchy waist band together in two places.

Translation – these diapers will move with my mini man, keep him dry and be soft against his little bottom. A winning combination in my books.

Around this time five years ago, I was pregnant with Lilly and excitedly dreaming about what next years Christmas would be like when she was with us. Kisses through the playpen. So adorable it hurts.

When I was pregnant with Lilly I started a wonderful baby book. I included photos of my ultrasounds, updates on my pregnancy, and tons of pictures after she was born. sadly, I haven’t kept it up the way I’d hoped. And while I have purchased a scrapbook and some supplies for Colton, I have yet to start anything… And he’s eight months old.

I started this blog because I love the idea of having a digital space to put everything about Lillys life. When I got pregnant with Cole, this site became a space for both of their lives. And while I love sharing the beauty of parenthood with my audience, sometimes I wish there was a way to share more detail with just our close family and friends.

When I heard about the Timewyse Locket app, it sounded right up my alley. This beautifully designed mobile app uses photos, videos, text and voice memos to build the perfect digital baby book. The memories can then be viewed in the app, on a e-timeline through a web browser or you can even have a photo book printed.

The welcome screen on the app has a lovely design and is so easy to navigate.

If I can’t think of something to share at the time, the app even prompts me with ideas of moments and facts to share with questions such as these:

• “Take a photo of Cole with his favourite toy.”
• “Take a photo of Cole’s hands and parent(s) hands together.”
• “Record Lilly saying the alphabet.”
• “Take a picture of Lilly with the family pet(s).”

I’ve set up accounts for both Lilly and Colton and have gone back a few months to really get a great feel for the ability of the app to give a full timeline. What I love about this app is that is combines all of my favourite media types into one place. I can write little updates like I do here on the blog. I can share photos and videos like I do on Instagram and Facebook. Plus I can share short voice memos, which are a nice change since they allow me to really convey excitement, love and other emotions in my voice.

I’ve started to share the links to Lilly and Cole’s e-timeline with close family and friends, but I also can’t wait to share it with them when they are older. Lilly already gets so pumped to listen to the voice notes or watch videos of her and her brother…I may be growing a mini blogger here…

I know that this is something I can upkeep much easier and can’t wait to see how their first round of printed books turn out!

We are already seeing this love for the motion screen with our daughter, Lilly. Of course, this brings on the need for rules & careful monitoring.

Time spent in front of the TV is an ongoing current battle at our place. There is nothing more frustrating than Lilly crying over her show being turned off. Especially when she has a huge playroom full of toys and books.

We also have to be concerned over what she has access to. When watching a kid-friendly television station, it’s not a big deal. However, like many families now, we are all addicted to a specific video streaming app. My husband and I love being able to watch great movies and seasons of whatever gritty tv show we’re into. However, leaving that app open for Lilly can be risky.

Sure, I can set the app to a certain age category for her to browse through. However, since our 3 year old can work the tablet better than her father, it doesn’t take her long to get back to the main menu and choose from any video content she lays eyes on.

When I learned about Kidoodle.TV, it sounded perfect for us. Unlike other streaming services, Kidoodle.TV is designed ONLY with kids in mind. All of the content is kid friendly and is broken into age groups. You can lock down your child’s age group, so they only ever see what is appropriate for them. Further more, you can then go into the full list of titles and block any that you don’t want your child to watch.

For instance, if there is a particular whiny 4 year old…who’s name rhymes with bayou…you can axe him from the available list of choices. I was sold on that feature alone. For that exact reason. And that exact show.

Another great feature of Kidoodle.TV is that we can set viewing time limits. This is is done in the Parents Room and is adjustable with a specific code. This has come in handy in recent weeks, since there have been times where I am holding a screaming newborn and can’t really get to the remote for the TV. Instead, the service gives her a “time is up” screen and that is all there is to it. Fight is over before it begins

With a great selection of shows and movies to choose from, there is a more than enough to give Lilly plenty of variety, but with all the control that I want to have as a parent.

It’s no secret that the Toronto BabyTime Show is one of my favourite parenting events to attend. I first attended in the Spring of 2010, when I was expecting Lilly and have headed back down (a 2 hour drive – totally worth it!) many times since.

This past fall, I took my family with me to the BabyTime Show for the first time. Lilly had a complete blast at all the fantastic interactive booths that vendors had set up. Unfortunately, with my hubby working next weekend, I will be leaving her at preschool. However, I will be heading down with my newborn son, Cole. I am very excited to be one of the many cute baby-wearing Mamas walking around the show floor

Looking through the exhibitor list for the show, it is easy to see that you have the opportunity to connect with many major brands at this event. The BabyTime Show gives you a unique chance to really see, touch and try products for you and your family, as well as allow you to ask questions and get information directly from the brands.

One aspect of this experience that I love the most is finding great innovative products and meeting up and coming companies that you can support. In many cases, you can discover amazing and unique products that you would never find at a big box store, and they are created by fellow parents who saw a need and got creative. I truly love the chance to get to know and support these parenting entrepreneurs.

When I attended the show in the Fall, I was on the lookout for a few products specifically for pregnancy. Now that I am the proud owner of a shiny and adorable newborn, I am looking for some innovative baby gear and a few unique items that will be distinctly Cole’s, just as I did after Lilly was born. Many of the products I discovered for her are still ones I recommend to fellow new mamas now.

This gorgeous organic Sleep Bag from Wee Urban is one of the innovative must-haves I discovered at the Fall 2010 BabyTime Show, after Lilly was born.

At this year’s show, there are a few specific vendors and key new products that I have my eye on. Being a busy mom of two, I am looking for products that can make my life a little easier!

Bug In A Rug will be offering a very sweet Sleep Belt that is designed specifically for skin-to-skin support. My new little man definitely loves his time napping on Mama, so I love the idea of being able to hold him while still having my hands free.

Cub’s Quarters makes a very innovative product called QuickZip crib sheets. These sheets include a zipper base and top sheets that simply zip into place. While Cole is not yet sleeping in his crib, I can imagine how nice it would be to not have to lift a mattress to change sheets in the middle of the night…

Lil Bugs is a new company that has launched an adorable way to celebrate your baby’s first year. The offer monthly onsies that can be later stored into a keepsake box, complete with cards to capture all the milestones accomplished that month. This is one I am definitely excited to try out.

At nearly 4 years old, I have already started to see that fashion loving streak with Lilly. She insists on picking out her own clothes each morning and is constantly dressing, redressing…and redressing her dolls.
