On top of that, we’ve just welcomed the birth of our little boy…meaning I now get to wear the other 95% of my wardrobe again and I have the whole spring and summer off! I have my eye on a few items from the Sears spring line to help get me back into my regular style.

The trendy colours of the 2014 spring season seems to be very similar to the main colours of last year. This is fantastic for two reasons. First off, I LOVE these colours. Secondly, I already have many components in my closet. A few key pieces from Sears will really help to give it a fresh touch.

When looking at putting together outfits, I have a few things to keep in mind. I will now need to keep up with one preschooler, while handling a newborn. Naturally I will be looking for clothes that are comfortable and stylish. Since I am the food source for our little guy, I also need to think about access to the “girls” at all times

I have a ton of coral and turquoise accessories in my closet. This has been my favourite colour combination for a while now. These adorable coral cargo bermudas look comfortable and functional and this printed top brings in all the right colours in a fun way. I love the trend of paring a dark base with pops of a bright spring colour. This black and yellow look screams spring. Of course, with accessibility in mind, I’ve picked out a great nursing cami and button up colour block top. I also loved these fitted denim capris.

For her first birthday, I had gone with a pink and orange floral theme. I wanted something that was cute and fun, just like my little lady. As with most 1st birthdays, it was mainly just friends and family that attended, but we still had one heck of a full house. It was a great way to celebrate her first year.

You could definitely say that I went a little all out for the party. We had decorations all over the deck and back yard, games for the bigger kids and jammed packed goodie bags. We even went out and bought a pool…then subsequently drained our well and blew our pump. Good times. But it was all worth if for the incredible day of memories.

With our little man, Cole, due in just a few weeks, I already have visions of planning a little boy’s first birthday

Just as I did right before Lilly was born, I have placed everything we have for our new baby in the middle of the to-be nursery. There is a ridiculously satisfying feeling that come from sorting and organizing baby clothes and supplies. Kind of like a Christmas morning feeling just for pregnant women. After going through everything we had and have been given, I came to a very quick conclusion.

We really don’t need any more clothes! Thanks to the generosity of friends and family, we are more than set for the entire first year of this little man’s life.

This is just the newborn-12 months clothes!

Now, while we might be set for clothes, we definitely need to stock up on many of the other basics for a newborn baby. We have very little when it comes to wash cloths and receiving blankets. Most of them were pretty beat up by the end of the baby stage with Lilly. Many have since been donated to her baby dolls. We also realized that the few crib sheets and blankets we have left are 90% pink. While that’s really not a big deal, it would be nice to get a few that match our son’s nursery and are just his.

We also need to get a couple major pieces of furniture. I must have a glider, something I regrettably never had with my daughter’s nursery, and a change table. We didn’t keep Lilly’s, since it had taken quite a beating in our move last year.

Needless to say, we will be taking full advantage of the upcoming Baby Days!

2013 Sears Wish Book

There is one specific book that came in the mail every year around the holidays when I was a kid. I would watch for this book and hound my mom to check the post office everyday in anticipation. The book, of course, is the Sears Wish Book!

Now, getting the book in the mail was the easy part. Wresting with my brothers to ensure I got first crack at the toy selection was the harder part. The tradition in our house was to go through the Sears Wish Book and circle the items that we would like most, with an initial beside each circle. We then had to write out our letter to Santa with those items and give the lists and the book to mom.

Of course, she got it all off to Santa for us.

Now, at not quite 3 and a half, Lilly is a bit young to really make a full Christmas list. She basically wants just about every. single. toy. she lays her eyes on. This leaves identifying some of the items she really wants a little more difficult. In starting our own tradition, we looked through the Sears Wish Book at all the possibilities. It was clear that some toys got her more excited than others. We circled them and discussed why she thought they would be perfect choices to tell Santa.

While the list was quite lengthy, here were are few of her main choices.

Lilly was quick to point out that this combines Play Doh and a couple of her favourite Disney Princesses. Obviously, it made the list.

Anyone who knows my child, knows that she is obsessed with all things My Little Pony. Of course this means that we have seen the new movie about 100 times. The one where the “ponies become girls”. When she spotted this, I think she literally squealed.

This last one is a toy we could both agree on. Lilly has a dino fetish. She has collected dozens of dinosaur toys in all different shapes and sizes. She has even collected rocks and leaves to make her “dino world” look more realistic. When we saw this incredible toy bin that doubles as a play mat, I think we both got equally excited! Now, I just need to find one for ponies too…
